We are recruiting an additional Engineering Manager responsible for the day to day engineering support of our fleet.

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will work under the guidance of two existing Engineering Managers and liaise closely with Operations Managers, Fleet Engineers, and vessel crew, to resolve breakdowns and defects of our vessels and work to maintain a high level of maintenance and reliability of the fleet.

The role will be primarily based in our Tendring, Essex office, with frequent travel to vessels located throughout Europe, often for several days at a time. Remote working will be considered for experienced individuals.

The role will suit a professional who has experience in the maintenance management of a fleet of equipment / machinery. Marine experience will be a significant advantage.

Job Role Duties

Help maintain a high level of maintenance and reliability of the vessel fleet on a day-to-day basis through;

  • Resolving vessel defects with the support of Engineering Managers and Fleet Engineers
  • Tasking Fleet Engineers and supporting with technical information
  • Sourcing replacement parts for defects for Purchasing Department to buy
  • Liasing with Contractors to ensure any urgent defects or breakdowns are dealt with both quickly and cost effectively.
  • Planning of yard periods along with advanced planning of scope of works and equipment/parts required.
  • Planning of machinery exchange/overhauls

And on a administrative level by;

  • Avoiding repeat breakdowns through cause/analysis investigation and condition monitoring.
  • Recording and monitoring the engineering history of equipment including the use of spare parts, in order to improve critical spare parts holding.
  • Ensure compliance with EH&S and, in conjunction with the fleet engineers, develop standard operating procedures for important tasks.

 Minimum Requirements

  • Professional engineering qualification or experience in fleet maintenance management
  • Must be able to work closely as part of a team

Fleet Engineer - Europe

We are looking for a marine engineer to join our team of Fleet Engineers. The role includes travelling between vessels, situated throughout the UK and Europe, assisting the on-board crew in maintaining the vessels, rectifying outstanding defects and dealing with urgent technical issues. A company service van will be provided.

Duties will include:

  • Managing and updating the defects throughout the fleet and reporting to management
  • Training and assisting new and existing crew with good maintenance
  • Maintaining and repairing all aspects of the vessel, with the assistance of the vessel’s crew
  • Attending and managing service agent callouts
  • Attending and managing dry docking/ engine exchanges, liaising with shipyards, surveyors and contractors.
  • Identifying required spare parts
  • Managing spare parts inventory in service vans & site stores.
  • Conducting inspections and testing and recertification of vessel equipment including;
    • Lifting Equipment
    • Portable Appliances
    • Life Saving Equipment

Qualifications/Experience should include:

  • Fluent in English
  • Right to work in Europe (and, ideally, UK)
  • 5-10 years marine engineering experience, preferably in small / fast craft.
  • STCW95 certified (preferable but not essential)
  • Full driving license
  • Good working knowledge of:-
    • Marine Engines (Volvo Penta/MTU experience advantageous)
    • Marine Systems
    • 3-phase 415V & 24V electrical systems
    • Air-conditioning systems

Working Time

The role is a 21 day on – 21 day off rota, in a team back to back with another fleet engineer and managed by Engineering Managers based at our headquarters. You will be tasked by and report to Engineering Managers for important planned and unplanned tasks, however you will manage your own time outside such tasks. You’ll be expected to work up to 12 hours a day and be highly flexible to rapidly react to changing situations / breakdowns.

While you’re on duty, we’ll provide a service van and tools. Accommodation will be either on-board the vessel you’re working on or shoreside as appropriate.

Salary is provided on a day rate basis and dependent on experience. Additional food allowance is provided. This position could be filled by a self-employed professional.
